Rochelle Rawson, daughter of Roger and Kay Rawson, Hooper, Weber County, was awarded the 1991 Utah Young Woman of the Year medallion.
At ceremonies in Highland High School, Emily Bankhead, Provo, was named first runnerup and Dawn Dorius, Salt Lake City, second runnerup.Rawson will represent the state at the National Young Woman of the Year finals in June in Mobile, Ala.
Thirty-four Utahns participated in the program and were judged on scholastic achievement, fitness, creative and performing arts, stage presence and panel ratings.
Tineka Yergensen, Salt Lake City, selected by other contestants for a "spirit" award, was awarded a $500 scholarship by Coca Cola, a national sponsor for the competition.
Contestants were honored at a luncheon in the governor's residence, toured the Primary Children's Medical Center and the Coca Cola plant and were guests of Salt Lake City Mayor Palmer DePaulis for a reception and tour of the City-County Building.
Troy Thornton, chairman of the Young Woman of the Year contest, was assisted by Jill Faldmo Clark, former state winner, and other volunteers.
