The University of Wyoming baseball team pounded out 16 hits and capitalized on eight University of Utah errors to pound the Utes 15-5 Saturday at Derks Field.
The Cowboys' victory was their third in a four-game series.Wyoming left fielder Brett Feauto went 4-for-4 with two triples and two RBIs to pace the Cowboys. Cowboy first baseman Rigo Beltran went 3-for-3 with an RBI. The other key contributors for Wyoming were second baseman Mitch May (three RBIs), right fielder George Baker (two RBIs) and shortstop Ron Warner (two RBIs).
Utah first baseman Steve Davis had two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Shaun Peters, the Ute second baseman, went 2-for-5 with a triple and an RBI. Utah totaled 10 hits.
In the top of the seventh inning, leading by only two runs, 7-5, Wyoming pounded out seven hits and scored six runs to go ahead 13-5.
Mike Lopez earned the victory, improving his record to 4-2. Ute hurler Bill Moeller got the loss.
Utah's record now stands at 14-23 overall and 3-5 in the WAC. Wyoming improved its record to 16-10 and 5-2.
Utah plays host to San Diego State University in doubleheaders Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday's games begin at 2 p.m., Wednesday's at noon. All games will be played at Derks Field.
