The government is seeking comments about plans to convert U.S. 89 into a freeway in Davis County.

Sen. Jake Garn and Rep. Jim Hansen, R-Utah, said Friday that a public comment period is under way for an environmental impact statement on upgrading an 11-mile stretch of the highway between Lagoon and I-84.The Federal Highway Administration authorized the Utah Department of Transportation to proceed with the study, for which Garn and Hansen helped obtain $4.25 million in federal funding last year.

Garn and Hansen said comments and questions about the project should be directed to Tom Allen at the Salt Lake office of the Federal Highway Administration at 524-5143.
