Retired Army Lt. Gen. Thomas Kelly, in his debut on the lecture circuit, said the United States should avoid involvement in the rebellion going on in Iraq.

"There have been Kurdish uprisings for several thousand years, and I'm not making light of it," Kelly said. But he told 2,100 listeners that the United States has completed its goals of expelling Iraq from Kuwait, destroying Iraq's defense capabilities, and insuring stability in the region.

"We should not go into Iraq . . . because it would cost us a lot of additional casualties.," Kelly said.
