Two snowmobilers who were stranded Thursday in a creek bottom in the mountains above Farmington walked out early Friday morning, according to the Davis County Sheriff's Department.
The two Farmington men were reported missing about 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Capt. Colin Hart said. The county search-and-rescue squad was alerted, along with an air ambulance.Kenny Knighton, 38, and his father, Kaye Knighton, 56, went up Farmington Canyon at 3 p.m. Thursday. Their snowmobiles apparently got stuck in a creek bottom in North Fork Creek, near the Bountiful Peak summer-home road.
A sheriff's department sergeant drove up the canyon, found their parked vehicle and, guided by a helicopter pilot, walked into the area and found the two men. High winds prevented the helicopter from landing, but the pilot spotted the lights from the machines and told deputies of the men's location, Hart said.
The two snowmobilers were not injured and walked out, meeting other rescuers about 4 a.m., Hart said. The two men plan to go back into the canyon this weekend and retrieve their machines, he said.
