A Swedish defense research institute said Friday it had received seismic signals consistent with an underground explosion in the United States Thursday.

The Hagfors Observatory, which regularly monitors nuclear tests around the world, said in a statement the signals were presumed to be a nuclear explosion at the Nevada test site. The signals corresponded with those that would be expected from an underground explosion with a yield between 40 and 150 kilotons if conducted in rock.

The explosion was recorded Thursday.
