A crane with a 220-foot boom prepares to lift the first section of a roof truss into place high atop the Jazz arena at South Temple and 300 West on Wednesday. The boxlike trusses come in three 115-foot sections that are 35 feet wide. Once in place, they form a 345-foot span that rests on a stainless-steel track. Ten trusses will be used to support the roof, which is the first of its kind in the United States. The trusses will be in place in about 10 weeks.
