State Rep. Joanne R. Milner, D-Salt Lake, has been named an Outstanding Communicator by the Utah Chapter of the Women in Communications Inc.
The communications society presented the award to Milner. The group also honored the Utah Pay Equity Coalition.Milner was recognized as an individual skilled in verbal and written communication and dedicated to promoting and supporting women in the work force.
Milner, coordinator for the University of Utah's Executive Masters of Public Administration program, represents the west Salt Lake neighborhood where she grew up and where her parents still live. She was first elected in 1986 and serves on the legislature's Social Services and Health Appropriations committee as well as the standing Judiciary and Education committees.
"Rep. Milner has made impressive strides as a voice for diversity in the Utah Legislature," said Barbara A. Shelley, president of the women's communications group.
The pay equity coalition was lauded for its use of communication to address the issues of women in the work force.
