St. George police are investigating the discovery Tuesday of the body of a woman they believe may have been sexually assaulted and murdered.

Chief Jon Pollei said the unidentified woman was found "partially clad" on an isolated road south of the city center. He said she apparently had been killed a few hours before her body was found at 7 a.m.The chief said the woman was a "light-skinned" female approximately 30 years old. She apparently suffered a single gunshot wound to the head.

Pollei said the woman had black hair and that she may be Indian or Hispanic.

The body was found along River Road, about a mile south of Brigham Road.

Pollei said the road is just off the Bloomington Exit from southbound Interstate 15.

Investigators say the killing may have been sexually motivated.
