An Oregon man was arrested Monday for investigation of trafficking child pornography, police said.
A 25-year-old New Mexico woman phoned Salt Lake police officers Monday and said a man she had been traveling with had made death threats against her. Police said the man may have threatened to kill her if she did not cooperate in making pornographic pictures.The woman said the man had pornographic photographs of his girlfriend's 11-year-old daughter, according to a police report. She told officers the man had also put drugs in her food. Once the woman had been left alone, she contacted police.
Officers responded to a motel at 5895 W. North Temple and found the man packing his car to leave. He was stopped, and his car was impounded. Several photo albums and cameras could be seen within the car, police said.
Detectives obtained a search warrant Tuesday and confiscated a half-pound of marijuana, marijuana seeds and some nude photographs. "We don't know if (the photos) meet the criteria for child pornography," said Salt Lake Police Sgt. Scott Atkinson.
A 34-year-old man from Hermiston, Ore., was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of possession of child pornography, possession of a controlled substance and theft of services.
