President Stanford Cazier presented the Utah State University Presidential Citation to four people Wednesday.
Honors will go to Jay R. Bingham, Bountiful; Norma W. Matheson, Salt Lake City, and Alice Colton Smith and Newel G. Daines, both of Logan.Bingham, president and founder of Bingham Engineering, has designed and supervised construction of numerous major hydroelectric projects in the United States and abroad. He has also been president of the USU Alumni Association and a member of the USU Institutional Council.
Matheson was first lady of Utah from 1977-84. In addition to those duties, she served in many volunteer capacities related to concerns for children and the elderly. She has supported the USU Women's Center.
Daines was mayor of Logan 1982-90. He was a board member for the Utah Association of Municipal Power Systems and the Intermountain Power Agency. He has been president of the Cache Valley Medical Society, Logan Hospital Staff and Utah State Society of Anesthesiologists.
Smith was a part-time faculty member at USU. She has been active in support of women's issues at USU and internationally, and has worked with international students and families, both in the United States and abroad. She is listed in Who's Who in the West and Who's Who of American Women.
