The first alumni directory to be produced by Southern Utah University is now available, and staff members are busy filling hundreds of orders for the book.

According to Peg Thorley, director of alumni relations, the directory contains the names of more than 12,000 graduates, students who attended more than two quarters, and high school graduates prior to 1941, dating back to the first six graduates in 1900.The 252-page Southern Utah University Alumni Directory is set up to make it easy to locate former classmates, Thorley said. A master alphabetical list contains such data as present addresses, where known; degree obtained, if any; and year of graduation. However, a second section contains shorter alphabetical lists under each year that a class graduated, and a third section lists graduates geographically, by state and town.

Thorley noted that the geographical listing makes the directory useful to take on trips, such as a vacation, that might take the owner to an area where former classmates may be living. The book also has complete cross-referencing of maiden names, she added.

"Hopefully, it's something people will really like and something that will be of real benefit to them," Thorley said.

A limited number of the directories are available through the SUU Alumni Relations Office, 586-7777, for $29.95.
