The chief government lawyer criticized on Tuesday attempts to settle a civil racketeering charge against former first lady Imelda Marcos before a U.S. court, saying it would be a "betrayal" of President Corazon Aquino's moral crusade.

"If we were just to simply accept the money and forget about the need to vindicate the wrongs that were inflicted upon the Filipino people, then to me that's a betrayal of that moral crusade that is expected of this government," said Solicitor General Francisco Chavez.
