A high-speed chase through Rose Park neighborhoods Sunday night ended in a collision between the fleeing motorist and another driver.

The chase began at about 7:15 p.m. when Salt Lake Police Officer Mike Chard spotted a car traveling at a high rate of speed near 400 N. 900 West.Lt. Mark Zelig said the motorist ignored Chard's attempt to stop him and continued northbound on 900 West, reaching speeds of 70 miles per hour.

"He was going that fast before the pursuit began, which is why Officer Chard tried to stop," Zelig said.

At 1000 North, the fleeing motorist collided with a car driven by Kay Chapman, 48, no address available, Zelig said. Chapman suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the other car then fled on foot and was captured nearby about 10 minutes later, Zelig said. Police booked a 34-year-old man into the Salt Lake County Jail in connection with the incident. Charges are pending.
