The Cache Recycling Coalition has enlisted Roger Stephens, Logan's director of environmental health, in an effort to launch a government-sponsored recycling program .
Stephens supervises the solid waste collection program Logan operates under a contract with Cache County. He said Thursday he will ask the Logan Municipal Council to appropriate about $92,000 for fiscal 1991-92 to buy a recycling truck and 30 four-cubic-yard containers.
Residents then could dump yard waste and paper at drop-off sites throughout the county.
"By diverting those reusable resources from the landfill, annual dumping would decrease by about 40," he said.
Stephens said he will continue to work with the coalition to involve local government in a comprehensive recycling program that would include plastic, glass and aluminum.
The council said it would take Bayn's recommendations under advisement.
