George Harrison Allen died Wednesday March 27, 1991, at his home in Salt Lake City of cancer.
Born October 6, 1904 to George Harrison Allen (a Civil War veteran) and Effie Spinney Allen, Lynn, MA.Graduated in 1926 from Dartmouth College, where he was an All-American football player. To pursue his interest in mining, in 1926 he entered the Colorado School of Mines where he was freshman football coach, then head coach from 1928, when he married Laura Graham, of Denver, Colorado, to 1933. Received Engineer of Mines degree in 1927. Member Tau Beta Pi.
Mining equipment sales engineer for Gardner-Denver until 1942 when he volunteered for the Army Air Corps. Served through World War II, and was discharged as Lt. Colonel. Joined Worthington Corporation in Denver, and moved to Salt Lake in 1949. Retired in 1971.
Member of Sons of the American Revolution; Golden City Lodge #1 F&AM; Scottish Rite; El Kalah Shrine of Salt Lake City; Past patron of Lynds Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. Active member and former junior warden of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He was loved by all his friends and family.
Married Catrina F. Hoffman June, 1970.
Survived by wife, Trina; two daughters, Elizabeth Allen, Salt Lake City; Patricia Allen, Homer, New York; one sister, Luella A. Codwise, Mass.; stepdaughter Kathy Anderson and husband Bill, Englewood, Colo.; stepson, George Van Tuyl, Salt Lake City; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 1, 1991, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul's Church, 261 South 9th East, Salt Lake City. Friends will be welcomed in the Parish Hall after services. The family suggest that if desired, contributions be made in his name to St. Paul's Church; Hospice of Salt Lake, 2970 South Main St., SLC; Estarl Fund of Lynds Chapter O.E.S., c/o Agnes Eberhardt, 2221 Carriage Lane #9, SLC, 84117; or other charity of choice.
