Mildred "Mid" Callister Willemsen, age 83, died Monday March 25, l99l at her residence in Carmel.

Born October 30, l907 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Thomas Alfred and Bertha James Callister. Married Anton "Tony" C. Willemsen. Prior to retirement, she had a twenty-year career as a special education teacher in Utah, Oregon, and Pennsylvania and specialized in reading; teaching approximately 600 children to read and reporting early cases of dyslexia. At retirement, l87 children and adults, who had been taught by her, appeared on stage at James Buchanan School (in Bristol, Pennsylvania) to honor her. A graduate of Salt Lake City School System, West High School (honor graduate), University of Utah (graduating Phi Kappa Phi in three years) and accumulated graduate hours in education at University of Oregon, Temple University, and Trenton State. Awarded in 1982 the University of Utah Emeritus Club's Merit Honor Award for her accomplishments and career. Member of U of U's Presidents Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International.Survivors, husband of Carmel, California; daughter, Mrs. Carol Butterfield Bacon, Oakland, California; son, Michael A. Willemsen, Palo Alto, California; granddaughter, Karen Willemsen, Palo Alto; brother, Dr. T. K. Callister, San Marino, California.

Funeral services in Salt Lake City on Saturday, March 30, 1 p.m., Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, where friends may call the hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery. Additional Memorial Services are scheduled for Saturday, April 6th, at the Community Church of the Monterey Peninsula under direction of Paul Mortuary, Pacific Grove, California.
