The Salt Lake County Library System and the Salt Lake Jazz Society will present the fifth annual "Jazz at the Library" Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, April 3, 4 and 6 at the Whitmore Library, 2197 E. 7000 South.
Designed for serious musicians and music lovers of all ages, the three-day festival will feature two evenings of concerts and an afternoon of workshops, all free to the public.Performing Wednesday will be the Underpaid Professors - alias Dan Waldis, Keven Johansen, Jim Stout and Jay Lawrence - in a combined concert and informal question-and-answer clinic at 7 p.m.
A 7 p.m. concert Thursday will feature the 17-member Phoenix Jazz Band and the Alta High School Jazz Band. Then on Saturday, from 12:30 to 6 p.m. there will be lectures on jazz improvisation and arranging for small groups, along with clinics on woodwinds, brass, percussion and big-band rehearsal and performance. Participants may observe or bring their instruments and join in.
