"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze" grossed $20 million in its debut weekend, ending the five-week reign of "Silence of the Lambs" as the leader at the nation's box office.

"Silence," starring Jodie Foster as an FBI trainee after a serial killer, took in $6.7 million for second place behind the sequel to last year's film about four crime-fighting turtles, Exhibitor Relations Co. reported.The gritty drug gang drama "New Jack City" sold $4.4 million in tickets for third place in its third weekend.

"Class Action," a courtroom drama starring Gene Hackman and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, held onto fourth with $4.3 million. It was followed by the Julia Roberts thriller "Sleeping With the Enemy," with $4 million.

"Dances With Wolves," Kevin Costner's epic Western, which won seven Academy Awards on Monday night, was sixth with $3.8 million.
