A man in a ski mask and carrying a gun attempted to rob a south Provo convenience store early Friday evening but ultimately fled without getting any money.

The man entered Walker Oil, 485 S. University Ave., about 7:55 p.m., displayed a handgun and demanded money. He then fled the store on foot without getting any money.At the time of the robbery, the man had on a ski mask, a black jacket and Levis. He is described as about 5 feet 7 inches tall, with blond hair tied back in a ponytail and a mustache.

A person fitting the robber's description was seen retrieving a white backpack in the vicinity of the store. Some time after the attempted robbery a baby sitter at a residence several blocks from the convenience store called police and reported a man fitting the suspect's description had knocked at the door and requested money to cover bus fare.

Around 8:35 p.m., police asked the Utah County Sheriff's Department to bring dogs to assist in the search near the south Provo viaduct.
