The Defense Department announced Friday it will fly medical supplies to Peru to assist in the fight against the cholera epidemic sweeping that South American nation.

More than 300,000 pounds of supplies donated by the Department of Defense, including medicine and such items as cots, will be flown on a military cargo plane and given to the Peruvian Ministry of Health in two emergency humanitarian relief missions, Pentagon officials said in a statement.The missions come at the request of the State Department.
