President Bush has accepted the resignation of Ambassador Richard Burt as head of the superpower arms talks in Geneva, the White House said Friday. Burt will be replaced by Linton F. Brooks in an acting capacity.

Burt, a former reporter for The New York Times, previously served as ambassador to Germany.A White House spokesman said that Bush appreciated Burt's dedi cated service "and is pleased that he has agreed to serve as a consultant to the secretary of state." Bush said Burt served in all of his posts "with great distinction."
