As of Jan. 1, premiums for Medicare Part B rose to $29.90 a month, and the annual deductible was hiked to $100. The Part B deductible had been $75 since 1982.The taxable wage base for Social Security payroll deductions in 1991 is $53,400, compared with $51,300 in 1990.

But the 1.45 percent Medicare tax remains in effect until you reach $125,000.
