If you want to help your overweight youngster live a slimmer, healthier life, don't just put him on a diet - join him, advises the Nutri/System Health & Fitness Information Bureau.

After monitoring the weight-loss efforts of a group of 6-12-year-olds, and tracking their maintenance success after 10 years, researchers from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine found that subjects who had participated in a joint weight-loss effort with at least one parent were significantly more successful at remaining slim than those who had dieted without a parental partner.
