More than 500 refugees from Iraq, including one American, were evacuated from northern Kuwait on Saturday and put on flights to Egypt.

The refugees, mostly Egyptians, were the first group to be evacuated from the Red Crescent refugee camp in this town on the Iraqi border.About 1,100 refugees remain at the camp, operated by the Red Crescent, the main Muslim humanitarian organization. The remaining refugees are mostly stateless people and Iraqis.
