Dr. Gary M. Sandquist, professor and director of Nuclear Engineering at the University of Utah, has been elected a fellow of the American Nuclear Society.
ANS, which has a worldwide membership of more than 16,000 engineers, scientists and educators, is dedicated to the peaceful application of the nuclear sciences.The citation of ANS Fellow is given for attainment in the nuclear sciences by notable original research or invention, by technical leadership of substantial scope or by outstanding leadership as a teacher.
Sandquist, professor of mechanical and industrial engineering, was chosen for his development and direction of a nuclear engineering education program that has produced 36 master's degree graduates and eight doctoral degree graduates. The program has also provided nuclear training for more than 650 undergraduates.
Sandquist, a United Nations-International Atomic Energy Agency nuclear science expert, has authored 200 publications and two books and has directed more than 30 research and development contracts.
