A flotilla of fishermen and environmentalists gathered Saturday in Galveston Bay to protest Texas Copper Corp.'s proposed smelter, saying the plant's discharges would pollute the bay.

Dozens of shrimpers, crabbers, oystermen and other vessels met off Virginia Point in opposition to the smelter."Galveston Bay is already a toxic soup and the smelter will only make that worse," one speaker said.

The Greenpeace vessel Moby Dick participated in the flotilla as part of its two-week campaign against threats to the Texas Gulf Coast.
