The law firm of Van Cott, Bagley, Cornwall & McCarthy will open an office at 3549 N. University Ave., citing growth in Utah County, according to David E. Salisbury, president.

In charge of the new office will be William L. Fillmore, who previously served as associate general counsel and assistant corporate secretary for Brigham Young University.Expressing optimism about the new office's future, Fillmore said the law firm has significant clients in the area including Central Bank and Trust, W.W. Clyde & Co., Geneva Rock Products and a number of small businesses. The expansion will help the law firm serve these clients better, he said.

"We also can provide new levels of professional service to others including patent, copyright and general corporate and commercial assistance law for emerging high-tech businesses," he said.

Van Cott was established in 1874 and is one of the largest law firms in the Intermountain Area. Fillmore graduated from BYU in 1972 and received his law degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 1976. He was in private law practice in Logan, Denver and Colorado Springs.
