Songer Construction's Kenn Elliott and Roy Howes, lower left, supervise installation of the first of two vessels being added for Geneva Steel's Q-BOP steelmaking process. Each vessel weighs 350 tons and will rest on two pillars containing 1,000 cubic yards of concrete. The Q-BOP will phase out the old open-hearth process and is the first part of an $80 million plan to reduce Geneva's output of fine particulates into the air by 57 percent.
