French Culture Minister Jack Lang shrugged off Hollywood's treatment of "Cyrano de Bergerac," the Gerard Depardieu film that suffered a bloody nose at the Oscars.

"Cyrano," the tale of the long-snouted genius who breathes passion and poetry into the mind of a tongue-tied soldier, was France's strongest entry in years. Nominated for five Oscars, it won just one, for best costumes."I would have been stupefied had things happened differently. That would have signified a veritable cultural revolution in the United States," Lang said.

Depardieu said he was happy for best-actor winner Jeremy Irons.
