Leland B. Christiansen (Chris), age 81, our loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away March 23, 1991, in the Utah Valley Medical Center.
He was born April 15, 1909 in Pleasant Grove, Utah to Eliza Ash and William Christiansen. He married Ruth Olpin on July 17, 1930; solemnized later in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Graduated from Pleasant Grove High School, where he was All-State in basketball, baseball and tennis. He also attended Brigham Young University. He played semi-pro baseball for American Fork, Draper, Tintic Standard Mining Co. and the old Provo Timps. He umpired and refereed baseball and basketball for many years and was involved in coaching young men's baseball. He worked at Tintic Standard Mining Co. and Geneva Steel. For many years, he owned and operated Chris Conoco Service and Later Chris' Quality Motors, with his son, Norman.Sports have been a very important part of his life. He has supported and followed BYU football and basketball throughout the years. He loved traveling with the teams to different parts of the world, and the association with the players and coaches. He was a true "super fan." He was a member of the BYU Cougar Club, Rotary Club, Old Timers, and Elks Club. He served on the High Priest Quorum in the Provo 4th Ward.
He was a very kind and generous man who loved life and had many friends. He loved his family very much. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth, Provo; sons and daughters, Norman L., Provo; Mrs. Grant L. (Joyce) Petersen, Boise, Idaho; Judy Frampton, Salt Lake City; and William A. Bill, Tallahassee, Flor.; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and brother, Verl Christiansen, Pleasant Grove.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 27, 1991, at 12 noon, at the Provo 4th LDS Ward, 800 North 100 West, where friends may call Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m., and Wednesday, one hour prior to the services. Interment, Pleasant Grove Cemetery, under the direction of Olpin Family Mortuary of Pleasant Grove.
