Mr. James Vernon Armstrong, age 93, died March 20, 1991, Valley Care Center, Idaho Falls, Idaho, of natural causes.

He was born April 2, 1897, Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of John Graham Armstrong and Mary Ann Jane Simkins. He grew up and attended schools in Salt Lake City. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War I. Married Zetha Howarth Smith, October 14, 1920, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He worked as a traveling salesman and was employed by Z.C.M.I. for 47 years, selling hardware, appliances and furniture. They moved to Idaho Falls in 1932. He was an active member of the LDS Church, where he served as a genealogist. Member American Legion Post #56 in Idaho Falls.Survivors include, wife, Zetha Armstrong, Idaho Falls; sons, Dr. Richard Merrill Armstrong, Visalia, California; James Albert Armstrong, Blackfoot; six grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, two sister and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 23, 1991, 10:30 a.m., Wood Chapel of the Pines, with Bishop R. Romney Painter, Idaho Falls LDS Ward, officiating. Visitation one hour prior to services Saturday at Wood Funeral Home. Interment Wasatch Lawn Cemetery, Salt Lake City.
