Winter still holds sway in the West, however, as March roars through its last days with rain, snow and high winds. A winter storm warning remained in effect Tuesday for the mountains of Southern California. Forecasters said another 1 or 2 feet of snow are possible by Wednesday and strong winds could create near-blizzard conditions at times in the mountains. Strong thunderstorms struck parts of Southern California on Monday, and in the central part of the Golden State dime-size hail was reported. Western Nevada was under a snow advisory, and so were the higher elevations in the extreme southern portion of Nevada. A winter storm warning was issued for Monday night over central and northwestern Montana.
