Robert Lewis, a prominent community leader and the first black appointed to the Salt Lake City Planning Commission, died at home on Friday, March 22, 1991. He was 81.
Active in community organizations, Mr. Lewis was a board member of the NAACP from the mid-1950s. He also served on the boards of Coop Service, the Utah Federal Credit Union and Model Cities. He held various offices on the Central City Advisory Board and was a trustee for the Utah Nonprofit Housing Corp.Funeral services will be Friday, March 29, at 1 p.m. in the Calvary Baptist Church, 530 E. 700 South, where friends may call an hour prior to services. Burial will be at MacKay Lake Hills Memorial Park in Sandy.
