A pickup truck hauls trash to a landfill, uncovered, risking leaving a trail of garbage in its wake. S.L. County residents can haul trash to the Salt Lake City/County Landfill for free in April - but it could cost them plenty if they're litterbugs. Landfill officials said Monday they want people to tie down their loads while driving to the facility, near 5600 West and 1300 South. On windy days like Monday, a lot of people with pickup trucks lose most of their trash before they get to the landfill. The result is a mess along roads, including the heavily traveled 2100 South freeway. "This is a neverending problem," said Dan Bauer, landfill director. He's told workers to charge double the normal $5 fee to anyone who hasn't properly secured his load.
