Just in time for post-war restructuring, Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, has been named the ranking Republican on a subcommittee overseeing the Middle East.

He takes that position on the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Near Eastern and South Asian Affairs - which includes oversight of such countries as Israel, Egypt, India, Pakistan, Iran and Iraq."The conflicts in the Persian Gulf are many," Hatch said. "It is a hotbed. It will take time and a lot of work, but peace is attainable."

He added, "At this point in our pivotal relationship with other countries, I can't think of a better committee on which to serve."

Hatch, who just became a member of the Foreign Relations committee, was also named to serve on the Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere and Peace Corps Affairs and the Subcommittee on Terrorism, Narcotics and International Operations.
