Wyoming basketball coach Benny Dees will be welcome back for the fifth and final year of his contract, but whether he will get a renewal is undecided, according to athletic director Paul Roach.

Dees led Wyoming to a 20-12 record this year that included a 1-1 mark in the National Invitation Tournament. But some fans were disappointed since the Cowboys had opened with 15 wins in their first 18 games and they had counted on an NCAA tournament berth.Wyoming ended the season with nine losses in its last 14 games, and beat just three teams in the final seven weeks of play.

Roach said Thursday that no decision has been made on whether to extend Dees' contract before the start of next season, or wait until after it.

"Benny's gone for about 10 days recruiting, and when he returns we'll sit down and discuss the contract thing and a recommendation will be made to the president and acted upon," Roach said.
