Ashdown Bros. of Cedar City submitted the apparent low bid of $315,104 to pave a 4-mile section of the old U.S. 91 in Iron County. The project runs from the Iron County line northerly to Kanarraville.

The pavement on the highway is badly deteriorated. The project involves placing a "leveling layer" of pavement over the existing surface to fill in low spots and ruts and to make the highway surface more level. A 2.5-inch layer of bituminous pavement will then be placed on the highway to strengthen and improve the pavement and to extend the life of the road. The contract provides 30 working days and is expected to be completed by Oct. 15. The project will cause moderate delays to local traffic as there will be one-way traffic past the paving area.

Federal aid funding will supply approximately 91 percent of the project cost and Iron County will provide the local matching money.
