A Soviet aircraft overshot a runway and struck concrete blocks in the Central Asian republic of Uzbekistan Saturday, killing 31 passengers and crew, Tass news agency reported.

The agency, quoting officials from the civil aviation ministry, said the Antonov-24 aircraft hit blocks being used for airport construction work in Tashkent, the Uzbek capital.Fifty-six people had been aboard the flight to Tashkent from the Uzbek city of Navoi.
