A North Ogden man is scheduled to stand trial June 11 for the beating death of his 3-month-old daughter.

Second District Judge David Roth Wednesday set the jury trial for Robert B. Morgan, 18. Morgan is charged with second-degree murder for the Oct. 10 killing of Ashlee B. Morgan. The baby bled to death after her father allegedly punched her in the stomach, lacerating her liver.Morgan was scheduled to stand trial for the murder last month but instead entered a no-contest plea to the first-degree felony charge following plea negotiations.

In exchange for his plea, the state agreed to recommend that Morgan serve no more than five years in prison and be placed in the Youth Offenders Program.

When Morgan realized that the state's recommendation was not binding on the State Board of Pardons, the defendant was allowed to withdraw his plea. If convicted by an eight-member jury, Morgan could be sentenced to life in prison.
