A Mexican national who was arrested near St. George last November for carrying cocaine and heroin worth over $375,000 has been convicted of two drug charges.

Domingo Uriarte, 40, was found guilty of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and aiding and abetting by a federal jury that deliberated for two hours Tuesday.He faces from 10 to 40 years in prison at sentencing before U.S. District Judge J. Thomas Greene on May 15.

Charges against co-defendant Samuel Emigdio, also a Mexican national, were dropped Monday.

Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Kevin Davis pulled over Uriarte's vehicle for speeding on I-15 on Nov. 16 and searched the vehicle after smelling an odor of marijuana, prosecutors said.
