Nine people lost their lives in the same number of accidents in February, the Utah Highway Safety Office said.

Through the first two months of 1991, 22 traffic accidents have claimed 25 people, compared with 35 accidents killing 43 people during the same period last year.Monthly fatalities have decreased steadily over the year. State safety officials attribute the decline to traffic enforcement and publicity campaigns aiding motorists in developing safer driving habits.

Of those killed in February, two were pedestrians and one was a bicyclist.
