Jazz forward Tony Brown was signed to a contract for the remainder of the 1990-91 season, the Jazz announced Thursday afternoon.

According to league rules, Brown, who just completed the second of two 10-day contracts, needed to be signed for the remainder of the year or be released. He was picked up on March 1 to replace the injured Blue Edwards."When I came here I would have loved to have been with the team for the rest of the year," said Brown. "But if not, I was going to work on my other options and see what happened with some other teams. But now I don't have to think about that."

Prior to Thursday night's 10-point, five-rebound effort, Brown averaged three points, 1.5 rebounds and 12.5 minutes in 11 games. The signing of Brown means when Edwards comes off the injured list, the Jazz must shed player, unless someone else goes on the injured list. Edwards, who had a cast removed from his sprained foot on Monday, isn't due back for at least another week. -
