Reservations are now being taken for two dinner/mystery evenings along the Wasatch Front - "Slaughter on the Strip," Friday, April 5, at Sherwood Hills Resort, and "Celebration Toast," the following Friday, April 12, at Snowbird Resort.
Both start at 7 p.m.Hans Petersen and Trina Eyring of KALL Radio will be special guests at "Celebration Toast," produced by Hunt Entertainment.
Both productions are "participatory dinner-theater," if you will, in which guests are invited to do their own sleuthing during the evening in an effort to deduce "whodunit."
- "SLAUGHTER ON THE STRIP" is one of eight murder mysteries written by James Christian of Layton for "Chameleons, the Whodunit Company." Christian is head of the theater department at Weber State University and artistic director for WSU's annual Utah Musical Theatre series.
The production is described as "a musical puzzle featuring a dazzling array of characters, including a lounge lizard, a country-western singer, Russian magicians, a boozy Broadway star, a second-rate comic, a blind pianist, a showgirl and the last remaining member of a team of singing sisters."
Cost for the Sherwood Hills evening is $19.95 per person, including a prime rib buffet. Sherwood Hills is located on Highway 89-91 in Sardine Canyon, between Logan and Brigham City. For reservations, call 245-6424.
- "CELEBRATION TOAST" involves a swinging bachelor by the name of Frank Cemico, who attends a party in his honor - then is found dead the next morning.
"Not a sedentary tabletop game or a passive movie or drama. . . . This is an original whodunit in which patrons fulfill fantasies of sleuthing in the tradition of Sherlock Holmes, Columbo and Nancy Drew," says writer W. Lee Hunt.
The production includes performers who've acted at the Hale Center Theater and the annual Dickens Festival.
The Snowbird mystery/dinner will cost $20 a person. Reservations are required. Call 521-6040. Special rates on lodging and skiing are also available.
In both of the murder-mystery weekends, the plots are just part of well-choreographed mayhem that allows dinner guests to choose their own level of participation.
