A jury awarded singer Peggy Lee, the voice of characters in the animated film "Lady and the Tramp," up to $3.8 million against the Walt Disney Co. for releasing a videocassette of the film without her permission.

There was confusion over the amount of the award Wednesday. Attorneys said they would ask the court for clarification in the next few weeks.Lee's lawyer, Neil Papiano, said it was clear the jury intended to award Lee $3.8 million, but Disney's lawyers believed the amount totaled $2.3 million.

The confusion developed because the jury was asked to fill out a complicated form that broke down the amounts awarded according to the various complaints in the lawsuit, ranging from breach of contract to unjust enrichment, invasion of privacy, use of Lee's name and use of her voice.
