South Korea will pay the United States $100 million in cash to help defray Persian Gulf war costs, of which $60 million will be delivered in the next 10 days, the Foreign Ministry said Thursday.

Britain will receive $30 million in cash, the ministry said. The decision, made hurriedly after a meeting late Wednesday of relevant ministries, follows a U.S. Senate vote to ban arms sales to allies until they deliver all the money promised.

A Senate committee said South Korea pledged cash and services totaling $385 million, but had provided only $71 million worth.
