The media will be barred from witnessing any future executions of California convicts, the warden of San Quentin prison said Wednesday.

Warden Dan Vasquez - embroiled in a lawsuit filed by San Francisco television station KQED, which wants to record executions on camera - said California law does not include any press in the list of people permitted to witness an execution.Therefore, he said, the press will not be invited to future executions. Nearly 300 inmates are currently on San Quentin's death row.
