The Winter Recreation Committee has set a meeting for 7 p.m. Friday, March 22, to continue working on a proposal for management of commercial uses in the Manti-LaSal National Forest.

The public is invited to the meeting at the Moab Ranger District office of the U.S. Forest Service, 125 W. 200 South. The nine-member committee has met twice since it was formed March 7 to identify issues and establish goals associated with commercial recreational use of the LaSal range southeast of Moab.

Pat Spahr, district forester, said the group is making good progress and will probably meet its goal of submitting a management proposal to the district supervisor by June.

"I think we're right on track. They've been very productive meetings," said Spahr, forest representative on the committee.

"We have developed an approach. We'll use the recreation-opportunity spectrum, which was developed from Forest Service research, to categorize areas by what they're best suited for," he said.
