A British man who died after skiing into rocky terrain at the Alta Ski Resort has been identified as Mark Gaus, 25, London.

Gaus and Ian MacIntosh, 28, also from England, were found about 10 a.m. Monday by other skiers in the East Greeley run area, an Alta area designated for expert skiers. Both men were flown to Salt Lake hospitals. MacIntosh remained in serious but stable condition Wednesday at LDS Hospital.

Alta Marshal Jerry Larson said the incident remains under investigation, adding that he is still waiting for an opportunity to talk to MacIntosh concerning the accident.

Initial indications suggest the men skied off a small cliff. Larson said that while the overall area has numerous signs indicating it is for experts, the cliff area itself is not marked.
