Each year Sterling Scholar officials ask the nominees to submit the name of a teacher who has been influential in their life. It may be a junior high school teacher they had years ago or one in their senior year.

But what is important is the influence he or she had on the student. In 1984, when the feature was first added to the program, the honor went to Cristine Blanch of Weber High School. The following years included Georganna Huff, Spanish Fork; Loren T. Johnson, Kearns; Dee Allred, Orem; Delos Jensen, West; Jody Heaps, American Fork, and Charles Lynn Frost, Mountain View.
